Aframe

I co-founded Aframe in 2009 after meeting David Peto and being inspired by his idea. Every production company was drowning in the footage it made and being forced to become an IT company. Aframe was a cloud platform that took that away: rushes were uploaded from location to a shared space, and everyone on the production could review them, leave comments and get on with making the programme. It was backed by venture capital and by some of the industry's best known names, and ran from twin sites in London and Sunderland. Before launch it went under the working name All In.

I was the technical founder and headed up the software development team. I wrote a good deal of the code, designed tools, systems, services and processes, and ran the team on a user-centred, agile way of working: try new ideas, and if they proved good enough, turn them into the product. My motto at the time was "Create something every day".

We grew from two people and a prototype to a team of 36 and a scalable platform, raising $10m through pre-seed, seed and Series A. I co-developed the patent on metadata tagging of moving and still images that the technology was built on. In 2011 Aframe was a Smarta 100 winner, a finalist for the Europas and the Guardian MEGAs, and shortlisted for a White Bull Bully. I left in April 2012.
