Bitsy was the first thing to come out of Makeshift: a tiny service for makers, musicians, designers, crafters, developers and small businesses to sell the digital things they made straight to the people in their networks, bypassing the middleman as far as we could. We put the first version out in beta after three weeks of hacking, in January 2013, and waived our fees for the early adopters.
It did not make it. By the autumn it was in the deadpool on the Makeshift products page, and Nick wrote up what we learnt from trying and failing to build an e-commerce platform for digital goods.
