Outcome
Over a million people had a Year of Colour report. Product Hunt's #5 product of the day on 1 January 2019, then a wave of press that week led by The Verge.

Year of Colour reads a year of your Instagram posts and turns them into a palette. You connected your account, it scrolled back through the year's images, pulled the most prominent colours out of each one, and gave you a colour report of your year.

I launched it in January 2018 as a Makelight side project, reading the colours of the previous year's posts. The 2018 edition, put on Product Hunt on 1 January 2019, was the one the press wrote about: number five product of the day, then The Verge and a week of coverage behind it. The 2020 edition ran at its own address, with an iOS app alongside the web version, and a beta was still running in 2024. The site is live today at yearofcolour.co.uk.
