How can we teach all the kids that want to code, how to code?

Over the last couple of years I’ve seen many new startups launch. One of the most inspiring, and one that I keep coming back to as an example of “do things that matter”  is Code Club .

Code Club is a network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs for children aged 9-11. Initially set up for UK kids less than a year and a half ago they are already branching out to an international audience.

As part of our ongoing series of “shedcasts” , recorded in the Makeshift shedscraper (our two-storey shed, yes really ), I asked Code Club co-founder Clare Sutcliffe to come in for a chat.

We talked about the state of software education in Britain, a little about learning “design”, the difference between “ed tech” and “tech ed”, a little about women in tech, some of the real challenges of using web technology in UK schools to teach kids, and what’s coming with Clare’s international focus.
