Planned Outage

A trip for tech people to turn off and get away in the wilderness, kayaking in the Norwegian fjords.

When
Aug 2014

Planned Outage was a trip for people in tech to turn everything off and get away into the wilderness for a few days. Dave Haynes and I organised the first one in August 2014: a long weekend kayaking down the Nærøyfjord in Norway, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with a night in shared cabins at Gudvangen, a night camping by the fjord, a barbecue and a lot of talking around the fire.

It was £250 a head plus the flight to Bergen, everything organised, no experience needed, and capped at twelve people. The point was to come home rested and ready for the next thing.
