This is a release on Type Records, the label I co-founded with John Xela. John was responsible for its musical output; I contributed in the first few years on design and running the label. The catalogue is archived here for posterity.
Hailing from the damp, blood-caked shores of Norway, Erik K. Skodvin (better known as one half of Deaf Center) smelted 'Knive', a dusty anthology of surreal and doom laden paeans to the ancient ones. Instead of revelling in pain and suffering, Skodvin looked to the skewed world of the Dadaists, and the result is nine tracks of menacing abstraction and surreal, nauseating horror. The album opens with 'The Boat was my Friend', where a distorted guitar drone rings out as crows bellow overhead, a cello fades up and a shadowy female voice utters strange wordless chants, and closes with 'Final Sleep', an operatic vocal soaring atop Angelo Badalamenti influenced organs.
