This is a release on Type Records, the label I co-founded with John Xela. John was responsible for its musical output; I contributed in the first few years on design and running the label. The catalogue is archived here for posterity.
The debut album from sound artist Arash Moori, introduced by a first-person press release from label boss John Twells, who met Moori at art school in Birmingham in 2000. Over the years, Arash pieced together a deeply personal palette of electrical sounds from strobe lights, fluorescent lights, radios, plasma balls and electronic devices, exploiting their peculiarities in live performances where the computer was an editing device, not a compositional one. Heterodyne is the culmination of these experiments: a spiky collection of coarse techno and disorienting drone, with raw electrical textures framed by analogue synth pads and oscillators.
