Follow our progress at SXSW Interactive on sxswm.com

I’ve organised a group of digital media types from Birmingham to go to South By South-West (SXSW) interactive (SXSWi) with the support of Digital Central.

I’m writing this on the plane over to Texas today (and now posting it from the hotel) - we’ve just passed Greenland and we’re about over the US mainland now. I’ve organised a group of digital media types from Birmingham to go to South By South-West (SXSW) interactive (SXSWi) with the support of Digital Central. All the info on who’s going is on a site I’ve set up just for the few days we are there.

We though it would be nice to be doing something a bit interesting with the trip, so the plan is that we’re all going to be batch covering the conference on our blogs and the social networking sites that we use.

We’ve each set up a ‘life stream’ using Profilactic that takes all of this stuff and sends it to the shared website that we’ve set up.

The result should be that anything that we publish while we are there will be online for all to see, and you can track our progress from today until we return on Wednesday.

We’re also asking you to suggest stuff that you might want us to go to. Have a look at our Ask us to do stuff page.

My digital backpack

So, I’m trying out a few things so I can be grabbing content and publishing while I’m out there - others are doing similar. Here’s my ‘digital backpack’:

Kit

Laptop

A pocket camera for stills and video

An SLR camera for evening stuff

Audio recorder - Zoom H2 for recording chats with people

iPhone for photos and some text/email

Buying a cheap mobile for SMS and voice calls while I’m out there

Websites and services

This blog

I don’t know how many considered articles I’ll be able to write, but you should probably see some activity here

Twitter

logging that’s limited to 140 characters that I can update via SMS

Flickr

I’ve been sharing photos for some time on this site. My ‘nice’ photos will go here but probably once a day ish

Twitxr

I know this is confusing! This is a service where I can take a photo on the iPhone, email it somewhere and it appears in my Twitter stream

Utterz

A service where you can call a number and make a voice recording that gets posted on the web

Viddler

A video sharing site that has a handy ‘record video from your webcam’ function

Basecamp

We’ve set up a private shared space for the group

Google Reader

I share stuff that I find interesting on various RSS feeds I subscribe to here

Anyway - I thought that might be useful - perhaps a few sites you haven’t heard of or aren’t using that might be useful for you.

Catch the whole thing as it unfolds on SXSWM.com. Really looking forward to an interesting time in Texas!
